This blog provides a place for your thoughtful responses to your reading of Markus Zusak’s novel.  I look forward to reading all that you write and to posting occasional comments of my own.  The Book Thief is a big novel, full of ideas, images, history, unique language, and even drawings.  Enjoy yourself as you put yourself into the capable hands of our narrator, who is, according to poet John Donne, “slave to fate, chance and desperate men,” and who “doth with poison, war and sickness dwell.”  Living in Germany in the 1930s and ’40s was an almost unimaginable challenge.  Let’s see what it looks like.
